Changing With the Tides

DebateChamps has made many changes over the years and this is another one. We have decided to take down our base site and merge everything into the store. What I have found is that the free site is utilized infrequently with the exception of the blogs. Our store has become the largest Forensics store on the planet, which has allowed DebateChamps to make many friends and some enemies. The NFL has been the most recent organization, which has targeted DebateChamps.

As a competitor I used to believe that the NFL was an honors society worth fighting for, but my opinion has changed. The NFL seems more focused on financial gain than they are on promoting children and education. I have many questions for the NFL and it's president Scott Wunn, which I hope are addressed at some point. Why has Rostrum become a magazine full of advertisements for food products and Lincoln Financial and one of the last resources to look at for Forensics information? Why is so much money spent on the NFL tournament and so little is spent on providing funding for students to attend the NFL National tournament. To my knowledge, the NFL has no program to assist students who qualify for NFL Nationals who cannot afford to attend. Why has the NFL attempted to create a storefront like DebateChamps, but has failed to explain how this is an endeveour which meets the tenents of the organization? Finally, why did the NFL not support free sites like DebateChamps, so we could help more students and instead opted to marginalize informational websites.

The NFL used to stand for something. I used to be a proud member of the NFL, but as a joint coach at an all girls Catholic school, which teaches morals and values, I have lost faith. I have lost faith in the NFL because I see the organization as nothing but a front to meet a corporate agenda. Go to www.nflonline.org and you can see the corporate advertising. They clearly have a message, but I don't see how it promotes high school Forensics the way it did in the 1990's.

So where do we go from here. I think we support organizations like the NDCA, the CFL and even the TOC (which doesn't hide what it's really doing). DebateChamps has evolved over the past three years and has grown by leaps and bounds. We provide 24/7 customer service and product support. We try to make money, but we care more about providing quality producst to students and coaches. Anyone who has communicated with us by email or on the telephone can testify to this fact.

I love calling the NFL because they are always very friendly, but when you try to reach the top of the heirarchy you are often greeted with unavailability or excuses. I feel like the NFL has turned into the phone company. You call and speak to a representative who is more than kind, but if you want to speak to a manager you are placed on hold. Isn't if funny that you are placed on hold with the phone company? Shouldn't they have more than enough people to talk to you. The same is true with Forensics. We have an addiction to talking, so you'd think the NFL would be more than willing to discuss issues and debate, but it appears that they are the ones who want to have the loudest microphone and are unwilling to share the floor.

We appreciate that you the customer, parent, coach and judge have made DebateChamps a microphone for change. We will continue to be the biggest Forensics store on the planet. We will continue to support students and coaches and we will endeveour to change any organization, which looses its way.
